Help to Rebuild our Home that we lost due to fire
Donation protected
Photo above is of my grandfather that perished in the fire.
My name is Sherryann and I live in the United States. My heart is very heavy as I write this but at this time we need your help!
On August 31st, while on vacation visiting my family in Guyana, myself, my mom, siblings, uncle and his wife, and my grandparents were asleep and awakened to fire in our house. Unaware of the cause, we tried to put it out but had no running water available at the time. As a result, we had to evacuate the 2-story building. The fire had spread so fast, my sister got trapped and had to be pulled out from the glass window and unfortunately in the process of trying to evacuate everyone, my grandfather died.
By the time the fire department arrived, the entire building was already engulfed in flames. What made it even worse was that the fire department was less than 3 blocks away from our house and when they arrived at the scene they did not have water. More time was spent waiting on another fire truck. By the time the fire was extinguished, everything was gone including our loved one.
Our loss cuts deep. My grandfather was selfless, always loving and always good to others. People always had positive things to say about him. He was a well-known photographer, renowned artist, and former manager at Guyana National Printers Ltd. His paintings flooded our house for years. He was also a lover of music, he was always listening to music, had old records, and an antique music system that has been there for decades.
Like my grandfather, I am also a photographer. While there I had my camera, my macbook that was gifted to me as well as my other photography equipment that alone valued at least $7000 USD. Now imagine the value of two households with both floors fully furnished then add the value of my grandfather's well-known paintings and the timely crochet patterns that my grandmother did for her clients. Altogether, the loss is irreplaceable and the worst part is that there isn't anything tangible left to be remembered by, only our memories.
To all of us, we lost more than a house, our house has been there since the 1960s, and has a lot of history. Many of our family members including myself grew up there and many others including my grandparents got married right at our house. Passersby always admired our house and the way my grandmother would upkeep it and the yard. About 2-3 weeks prior, my mom had just done renovations and to see all of our valuables, documents, and everything go down in front of our eyes and to lose someone we care so deeply about has been traumatizing.
At the moment, my family is going back and forth between other family members for shelter. In addition to the emotional stress, the physical moving to and fro is very hard for my grandmother especially because she has difficulty walking.
We're kindly asking you to help us at this time, to donate whatever you can to help me and my family rebuild our home. A good deed never goes unnoticed and we would greatly appreciate it in this time of great need.
