We are trying to raise money for a friend of ours named Frank. He is one of the best persons we know. He is a handyman who provides handyman services especially to the elderly in New Hanover County, North Carolina. He has provided handyman services for us for over 13 years. He never charges enough. We always pay him significantly more than he charges -- usually over his protests. He is over 60 years of age and continues to help people despite health concerns. We have observed over the years how many people he has helped by the maintenance work he has provided at more than reasonable fee. Many of his customers live on fixed incomes and would not be able to afford the repairs otherwise. He believes it is God's calling on his life to provide general household repairs to others at affordable prices. We don't disagree with him.
He has provided his services using a 2001 Chevy Astro Work Van. He is very good at automotive repairs and has maintained the van beyond its life expectancy. A few days ago the motor of the van completely went, leaving him and his tools stranded on the side of the road. Repairing the van is not an option. He has spent the last few days removing the tools from the van and trying to determine how best to dispose of it.
The van was the heartbeat of his maintenance and repair business. It was a mobile repair shop. He needs another van if he is to effectively continue his trade. His only other source of income is a little Social Security. He is not a candidate for a traditional auto loan and can't continue to offer the services he has been offering while saddled by a van payment. He doesn't need a new van. We are looking to raise money to purchase a used van. We are confident he is able to make a good used work van last. We are hoping to raise $5000.00 as soon as possible. He doesn't know this is happening. He is such a modest person. Thank you for your consideration of this request!
***Since posting this Go Fund Me Request, we have since learned that Frank is planning to purchase a trailer at a cost of @ $1500.00 to carry his tools. He plans to pull the trailer with a 1995 Rodeo that has 249,000 miles! While the trailer will work for the long term, the Rodeo is not likely to last very long. The funds received will be used to buy the trailer and to begin a vehicle fund so he can buy a better vehicle to pull the trailer. Thanks for your consideration of this need.
