Every year, from late March to early April, ospreys return to Cape Cod, famously returning to the same nesting sites with the same mates. These remarkable birds often choose to build their nests atop electrical poles, which poses a significant fire hazard.
During the off-season, electric companies remove these nests and install deterrents to prevent the ospreys from rebuilding. As a result, these birds find themselves homeless, forced to search for new nesting locations. Unfortunately, many end up building their nests on other electrical poles, leading to a repetitive and dangerous cycle.
The solution is straightforward: we can provide designated platforms for ospreys to build their nests safely and return to year after year. We are currently raising funds to construct osprey poles and platforms in the Eastham area. I’m collaborating with Chris Waltz, who brings a wealth of knowledge from his experience with Mass Audubon. Please note that Chris is working with me independently of Audubon to erect the platforms.Chris Walz has agreed to erect platforms utilizing the funds raised here. Your support can help us create a secure environment for these magnificent birds and break the cycle of displacement. Let's work together to protect our wildlife and preserve the natural beauty of Cape Cod!
