Hi, my name is Amanda, and I’m raising funds to help cover emergency medical expenses for my dog Cosmo, a 5 year old standard poodle who means the world to me.
Earlier this month, we were traveling from our home in Louisiana to Texas to help my parents finish packing for their move to Tennessee. The night before heading home, Cosmo suddenly started showing signs of illness. At first, his bloodwork came back normal, and we were told to keep monitoring him. But his symptoms quickly worsened with him shaking, crying, walking slowly with his head down, and backing himself into corners and freezing there as though he was in pain. He was struggling to lay down and would immediately pop back up.
When he tried to vomit but couldn’t, I knew something was very wrong. We rushed him to an urgent care facility where they immediately took X-rays. Cosmo had developed GDV (Gastric Dilatation Volvulus) a flipped stomach condition that traps gas and can be fatal if not treated right away. We were told his odds weren’t good due to how long he’d been experiencing symptoms, but they prepared him for emergency surgery.
Against the odds, Cosmo pulled through. He survived the surgery and is now in recovery. I’m beyond grateful to still have my sweet boy with me, but as many pet parents know, good care comes at a cost. His surgery and hospitalization totaled just under $11,000.
I’m not expecting to recover the full amount, but any contribution would help us begin paying down this unexpected expense and focus on Cosmo’s healing. Even the smallest donation means so much to us, and if you can’t donate, simply sharing this page would be a huge help.
Thank you for taking the time to read Cosmo’s story and for any kindness you can show us during this time.
With much love and gratitude,
Amanda & Cosmo
We are incredibly grateful to the staff at VEG Katy for taking immediate action and giving us the opportunity to return home with him. Thank you for taking such great care of him and keeping us involved and updated every step of the way.
