HELP TO KEEP A SCHOOL IN JAMAICA OPEN DURING COVID
Greetings from St Elizabeth, Jamaica!
We are a non-government prep school bringing high level curriculum and support to our rural Jamaican community.
Since starting 6 years ago, we have grown to over 300 students and have been a visionary and driving force for giving our communities youth a
GREAT START toward a BRIGHT FUTURE via excellence in education and an
empowering learning environment.
Recently we have faced some difficulties in remaining open and available to our
students due to Covid -19.
We had to reduce our staff and limit the amount of students we can receive in
order to adhere to new covid regulations.
To open up our doors at our normal capacity in September 2020 we are in
immediate need of some practical resources to accommodate smaller class sizes
and more classrooms, such as an outdoor multipurpose area, multiple hand
sanitizer stations, temperature testing and more teachers.
We do not receive any financial support from the Jamaican Government.
One main hurdle is class room space, we are looking to set up a multipurpose
outdoor area that can facilitate not only classes but other activities
for the children, we would do this in our current car park area, and give our
students the best chance at remaining in attendance during this school year.
What we need:
- Resources to build an outdoor covered multipurpose area
- Funds for multiple hand sanitization stations and temperature check equipment.
- Outdoor furniture for multipurpose space
Meeting our fund raising target would mean that hundreds of students would be able to continue their schooling in 2020 in our humble yet extremely passionately run school.
Having a school like The GREAT START ACADEMY open in this difficult time
provides a lot of strength for the students, their parents and the wider
community. We are EXTREMELY grateful for any and all donations towards this
goal, no matter how small or big!
