Hi, my name is Brittany, one of Shawn's daughters.

On June 30, 2024, our world was flipped upside down. My sister Shawna received a call asking how she knew Shawn Land. She said that he was her dad. She was told he was in a wreck, and we needed to get to the hospital. We all rushed to U of L hospital and the chaplain met us. The only thing I could ask was, "Is my father alive?" She said, "I think so." We were taken to a room where all of us could be together, and we waited.

Finally, the doctor came in and said, "I am so sorry to keep you waiting but your dad has been stat flighted to Jewish hospital for emergency heart surgery. He coded 11 times (4 times in the ambulance)." We all rushed over to Jewish hospital and waited again. The heart doctor came out and said, "Shawn's main artery to his heart was 100% blocked and we had to put in two stents. He is stable but the next 24-48 hours are VERY critical.

He was moved to ICU and from there it was downhill. He suffered 2 major strokes on top of the heart attack when he went into cardiac arrest while driving. He was paralyzed on his right side. They tried and tried to get him off the sedation medicine and his body wasn't having it. They did another brain scan and it showed that the left side was mostly gone, and the right side had two lesions that had appeared on it. They were now worried that when they took the sedation medicine off that his blood pressure would spike and cause a brain bleed.

It was a very hard decision, but his kids decided to stop doing the care because after two weeks of fighting this, his body was done.
