Help to get Alix a bespoke manual wheelchair
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Cam, Alix is my partner. I am trying to raise money to help fund a bespoke wheelchair for Alix, so that he can regain his confidence and independence.
His story...
This time 4 years ago, Alix was at his peak, working as a travelling manager for Travelodge and preparing to take over his own hotel as a hotel manager. He loved going out on his motorbike, travelling all over while training hard at the gym in hopes of becoming a competitive weightlifter. All in all, everything was going great, and he was really happy with how things were going with his life.
On the 9th December, he was making his way home from the gym after beating two of his personal bests that day, he had also picked up the keys to his own hotel, so as you can imagine was in a great mood. This is where it all changed, on a road he knew well a car pulled out on him without looking what was coming; he had to make a decision, slam his break on and go under the car, continue straight and go over the car or run in to the right hand lane to try and avoid the car in hopes that they see him, he chose the latter and unfortunately they did not see him and the car went straight in to his left side. This knocked him off his bike and left him and his bike skidding across the road.
After an hour and a half wait lying on the road, an ambulance arrived and cut him out of his bike gear to find crush damage to his right leg & left foot, along with a full posterior dislocation of his right shoulder. Thankfully, after a complex surgery, the shoulder was fixed (it will never be the same), but the damage to the leg and foot, unfortunately, is not something that can be rectified. This has caused a multitude of chronic conditions including Chronic Pain Syndrome, Post Thrombotic Syndrome, Myositis & Arthritus.
This has led to Alix needing a multitude of items & medications to assist him in his everyday life, none as important as the wheelchair he uses daily. Without a chair, he would be unable to leave the apartment, go to work, choir or any of the things he does in attempts to have a normal life.
Unfortunately, we have been unable to find a chair suitable for him until recently; however, the cost of a bespoke chair is well out of our price range, even with assistance from the NHS wheelchair services.
This is where you come in. If you can spare even 50p to help towards the costs of helping him get back to some semblance of a normal life, we would be forever grateful.
This chair will allow Alix to get back to the gym, to get out without having to rely on others to push him. Overall, it will give him his much-needed independence back.
It’s disgusting how much it costs to give somebody their independence, but we hope you can help by either donating to help someone who goes above and beyond for others or just sharing their story.
Thank you,
Cam & Alix
