Update 10/03/2023
Thank you very much for all of your donations so far. We are incredibly grateful to have your support ❤️
Fern is coming home this evening and has two weeks of recovery ahead.

Update 07/03/2023
We got a call this afternoon to say that Fern's surgery went well and she is recovering fine.

Her ectopic ureter on the left was corrected and the membrane in her vagina. There were no abnormalities during surgery.

Fern will have a catheter in for 24 hours.

She is on anti-inflammatory and pain relief medication. As well as anti-anxiety medication, she is nice and settled now.

Fern is getting lots of fuss and cuddles from the staff at the hospital!

Update 06/03/23
We have just had Fern's contrast x-ray results back. Which sadly confirms what we thought was true, Fern will need surgery to correct her ectopic ureter, as well as a problematic membrane in her vagina.

This has pushed the estimated cost of the surgery up to £10,000 - £11,000.

A New Leash for Life Rescue and Fern's new adopters urgently need your help to fund specialist surgery (expected to cost £6,000 - £10,000).

Fern's new owners do have Pet Insurance in place, but as Fern started showing symptoms within the 14-day "grace period" none of the medical costs relating to Fern's ectopic ureter will be covered by insurance.

On 15th January, Fern was adopted into her forever home. Within two days, Fern was weeing herself in her sleep. Fern was taken to the vet and a urine sample was processed which ruled out a UTI.

By 28th January, Fern was still wetting herself during her sleep. She had an ultrasound (which cost £121.33) at the vet, which did not show anything conclusive. They were able to rule out bladder and kidney stones. Fern was given incontinence medication to help reduce the number of accidents around the house. The medicine is only available as a temporary measure.

On 1st February, a cystoscopy (which cost £599.39) showed that Fern probably has an ectopic ureter. Fern was referred to Southfields Veterinary Specialists in Basildon.

On 13th February, Fern had a consultation (which cost £315) with Naomi from the Soft Tissue team. Naomi advised a contrast x-ray, followed by surgery to correct the ectopic ureter.

Fern's next steps: Fern is booked in for the contrast x-ray on 6th March (expected to cost £1,500) and will most likely stay overnight for an operation on 7th March.

The surgery alone is expected to cost £6,000 - £10,000. Fern's new parents and A New Leash for Life Rescue simply cannot afford to pay this vet bill. As Fern started showing symptoms within the 14-day "grace period" the surgery will NOT be covered by insurance.

Fern is desperately relying on the donations of kind people who can help fund her vet bills.
