Help to Fight Leukemia (Blood cancer)

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Gugan Loganathan (31). This is an urgent plea for assistance to a young Indian professional (31), who is currently undergoing treatment for a variant of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) - a rare form of blood cancer at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital (BIDMC) in Boston. I moved to Boston to pursue my Master's degree in Data Analytics at Northeastern University. I graduated in July 2021 and started a job as a Pricing Analyst in November 2021. I was continuing the job when I was diagnosed with AML in March 2022. I had to resign and commenced my treatment. I received chemotherapy to eliminate leukemia cells before a bone marrow transplant.

As I was relatively new to the US and have not yet established a support system, a group of acquaintances in Boston and relatives in the US came together to help take care of my immediate needs. However, I underwent aggressive treatment that helped my survival, and it is expected that I will require ongoing support until at least the end of 2023.

I would like to thank everyone who supported me with the earlier fundraising.

Although I'm receiving excellent medical care at BIDMC, financial assistance is required to cover my medical expenses, as well as to maintain my family's needs. My family and support people are of great emotional support during my recovery. I'm asking our community for support to cover treatment expenses, accommodation, and logistics for myself and my family members, as well as any other expenses such as medication and travel costs.

On June 14th, 2022, I had a bone marrow transplant, which was successful without any complications or rejections. I would like to express my gratitude to my sister Kaavya, who generously donated her stem cells to me when she came to the USA last year, as well as all the individuals who supported my family in various ways, including traveling from India, providing accommodation, and offering further assistance.

After the bone marrow transplant, I developed Graft Vs Host Disease (GVHD) in my mouth and eyes, causing dryness. During a bone marrow biopsy in October 2022, my doctor was pleased with the results, indicating that my body had accepted my sister's cells, and I was now 100% donor cells. In November 2022, I started a series of maintenance chemotherapy sessions, which I continued for five days each month.

My family and I recollect with gratitude all your solid support in every possible way along with your bountiful Wishes and Prayers during our hardest period. The positive words expressed by all of you gave a positive vibe throughout to all our family members.

We wholeheartedly thank all of you and request to continue to keep my health and well-being in your Prayers..

Current update:
Currently, I am on maintenance chemo and have completed four cycles. However, my recent liver alanine transaminase (ALT) test results have revealed high counts, over 300 (the normal range is approximately 40), which may indicate liver damage or disease. An ALT test measures the amount of ALT in the blood. When liver cells are damaged, they release ALT into the bloodstream. High levels of ALT in your blood may be a sign of a liver injury or disease. As a result, my doctor has scheduled a liver biopsy for April 3rd, 2023 (Monday).

Although I am determined and resilient, I lack the support of my former or potential employer, and I do not have the financial resources to cover my medical expenses and family needs. Consequently, my family and well-wishers have created a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds to support me and my family during this challenging time. We would be grateful if you could consider donating to help cover my medical expenses and immediate needs.

We kindly request your ongoing well wishes and support.
Thank you all.
