American Buddhist Seminary (ABS) Temple and Meditation Center has been in West Sacramento, California for the last 25 years. It was established under the patronage of the non-profit organization, the American Buddhist Seminary that was founded in 1992 by Venerable Seelawimala Maha Thera. Since then the ABS temple has been serving numerous communities throughout Northern California, the United States and the world at large.
ABS Temple and Meditation Center shares the teachings of the Buddha to enrich the life of every human being to secure a community with loving-kindness, wisdom and generosity. It provides an environment for the spiritual growth and development of all individuals irrespective of their religion, race or ethnicity to live wholesome lives and be a responsible human being for oneself and to others in the society.
Currently, ABS Temple and Meditation Center provides numerous services to different communities ranging from educating the people to lead them towards overcoming the unsatisfactoriness of life and practices such as meditation to facilitate it. We also provide family services (Counseling, retreats for children, blessing the sick, new born and homes etc.), community outreach programs (Talks in academic institutions,cardiovascular wellness programs in hospitals, work with interfaith groups etc), social welfare (Disaster relief etc. ) and spiritual services.
We conduct these services with severe difficulties because of not having a proper facility. The current facility with extremely limited space is old and structurally it is the time to replace. Further, existing monks’ residence has no space for additional/visiting monks. So we are in a dire need of a new building to serve many. With the new building, we will expand and add innovative programs and services (lunchtime and after work mindfulness practices for public etc.); provide classrooms for children and adult education; invite renowned scholars to conduct programs and accommodate the growing community.
Currently, we are raising funds to build the new facility. So far we have completed Phase1 (Building Plans, permits and groundbreaking) of the project. We are now leading to Phase 2 (Demolition, land preparation and foundation) and Phase 3 (Building from foundation to completion). The funds raised will be used for Phase 2 and Phase 3 of the building construction.
You are invited to be a partner in building this new facility by replacing the old building to enrich the lives of many. Your dollars will be well spent to construct this memorable building to serve the people for now and many generations in the future!
