I’m making this gofundme for my sister who is always willing to help anyone at any time. I can always count on her with anything i ask of her and she is always willing. She lost her job due to the pandemic and unemployment ended. She was able to receive disability due to her health condition but it’s not nearly enough to make ends meet. She was doing her thing at local markets around town selling her yummy snacks and plate lunches up until this latest incident. I just want to be able to help ease financial hardship due to her not being able to work right now.
Ter started dialysis about 6 years ago. She had a PD catheter put into her abdomen area so she could do at home dialysis treatments daily.
Little over a week ago she started having severe stomach pain and ended up going to the ER to check it out. Her white blood count level was high which indicated infection. Turns out she had an infection of her PD catheter. On Monday Dec.20 she was taken to Hilo medical center and admitted. (Kona hospital does not have dialysis capabilities which is why she needed to go to Hilo.) She received numerous antibiotics through IV hoping to get rid of the infection and the pain it was causing.
On Dec.24 they decided to have laparoscopic surgery to remove the PD catheter. Any type of surgery is a high risk for her since she had a heart stent put in about 11 months ago. Because of that she needed to take blood thinners which makes any surgery even more risky. At around 4:30
she was taken into the OR to have surgery. We never received a call for hours. Every time we called they said she’s still in OR. At around 10:30 we finally got through to the ICU where she was recovering. Not 10 minutes later we got a call that she was bleeding out and lost her pulse. They preformed CPR and was able to get her pulse back but they had to intubate her and put her on a ventilator and give her 4 units of blood. We all drove to Hilo to camp out in the hospital parking lot just so we could be close to her even though we weren’t able to go in. But around 4 am they made an exception to let 2 people in if they were vaccinated. We were finally able to see her and to our surprise she was awake and alert and even communicating through pen and paper. She even got to FaceTime with her kids and Fiancé. She is not out of the woods just yet but we will continue to pray for her. So if you can, I humbly ask for your help even if it’s just a prayer.
