Help to Demolish a Historic Church
Tax deductible
Greetings People of God, I am Malcolm Leon Jackson of Tyler, Texas. I am setting up this GoFundMe to benefit St. James CME Church. This Church was built in 1920 and registered with the Historical Society. Unfortunately, the building has fallen into total disrepair and in need of demolition. It is my Understanding that the cost is approximately $100000. The original quotes were approximately $300000 due to asbestos. However, the building is basically caved in as of this writing.
St. James CME Church is currently struggling with membership challenges related to the age of active members, COVID, and the current perception of churches in today's climate. The current membership is doing all it can to help with this effort all while trying to maintain the current facility. Unfortunately, this is not enough with the young members who are just starting their spiritual journey. They appreciate the history of the old building but didn't sign-up for this inherited demolition issue. The intent of the past Elders of the Church of preserving history was genuine but not well thought out. Thus, The situation that is presently at hand.
Therefore, I am seeking your help to assist in demolishing one of Tyler, Texas' Historical Landmarks. It is very unfortunate that this has to happen but it is necessary and required by The City of Tyler. The building is a hazard and a sad ending to a facility that has provided cultural relevance to the Community.
Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
