On June 21st I am cycling the London to Brighton bike ride to raise money to help cure Chronic Kidney Disease.
Chronic Kidney Disease is a life changing disease that can have a profound affect on the sufferer and families alike. There is little awareness about this disease and we did not know much about it ourselves until it affected my family in the most profound way.
My grandson was born with this life-changing condition—his kidneys did not form properly. From the very beginning of his life, he has faced challenges no child should have to endure. What should have been a carefree childhood is instead filled with medical appointments, uncertainty, and the reality of living with a serious illness.
Chronic Kidney Disease doesn’t just affect the kidneys—it impacts every part of life. It can lead to fatigue, developmental challenges, prone to illnesses and, in my grandson case, the need for for a kidney transplant in the next 1 to 2 years. There is currently no cure, only treatments to manage the condition.
I am fundraising because I want to be part of the change. I want to help support research that could lead to better treatments—and one day, a cure—so that children like my grandson can have a healthier, brighter future.
No family should have to watch their child face a lifetime of medical challenges. With more awareness, support, and funding, we can move closer to a world where this disease no longer controls lives.
