Preface: Not a pity letter…A bit of biography and real-life facts.
I feel awkward to write this as I was raised and taught by my mom that anything you want in life needs to be earned, and you must work extra hard for it. This is what she has always been doing, working days and nights, several jobs, using her creativity and making sure we had food on the table as a low-income family and a father that was abusive and absent when needed. I have learned from her to be resilient, and a strong and independent woman. Like her, I never asked for financial support, even when I had no food to eat. Since moving to Canada, I have pursued continuous education while maintaining demanding work schedules, working two full-time jobs, day and night shifts, while simultaneously completing my academic studies and cleaning older people’s homes. Mainly because, as an international student who moved to Canada alone, with little to no money and no English, coming from a low-income family, I had no other options than that. I do not regret anything, either moving here nor having to struggle even more without my mom, my lovely cats and my friends. The biggest pain has definitely been not being able to take care of my two old cats when they were dying, as well as my wonderful grandma. My mom was there and with no education, but just a big heart, and while working full-time and not being young herself, she became a nurse for my cats and grandma, while living with them and doing everything she could. Despite the challenges in life, I remained highly motivated and achieved excellent academic and professional outcomes, and I still want to improve my education and personal growth. I love expanding my knowledge, opening my mind through experience, but also academia, while never forgetting being as empathetic as my mom. I love making people happy, giving what I could not have, supporting my clients with disabilities in the best way possible, because they truly became family to me, and I deeply care for them. After 4-years of studying for my Bachelor of Social Work, in my 40s, in a new country, never knowing English before, while working immensely, completing my Practicums for university (another part-time job, but unpaid) every semester, every year, I have now applied for an Executive MBA at Telfer. The reason for pursing an EMBA consists of challenging myself in a different way. That will provide me with new corporate skills that I can use for my goal of improving social services while combining the two skill sets of business executive/project management, as a social worker. I will never forget my clients, the love and good intentions for them, and who are the reason for me continuing to want to improve myself and become better every day professionally and personally. Finally, pursuing the EMBA could potentially allow me to earn more and to financially be able to support my mom, who has been suffering enough and is still working at 72 years old, and to adopt a cat, which I have been dreaming of for so many years, but could never afford in terms of money and time, because of never being home.
Any small help to support my studies would be truly appreciate it and I will be FOREVER grateful!!!As well as the social work field . P.S: The cost of the program is $75,000.
