Help to Carlos Bellido

Life surprises us with new situations and today we write to ask for help because we are really in a distressing situation.
 

My husband Carlos Bellido and I came to Australia to visit our daughter and our grandchildren in November 2019 as she had a very difficult separation in September of last year. We had a return date for February 21 but unfortunately my husband Carlos fell ill. He contracted a blood infection and had to have open heart surgery and replace a heart valve damaged by the infection. They admitted him on February 10 and two days later they told us that they had to operate urgently. We argued that we did not have money to meet the expenses and we wanted to return to Argentina to have surgery there, but the doctors thought that my husband's condition was serious and that he could not travel because there was a lot of risk, and that they had to operate on him to save his life and then we should worry about the costs.


 
After the surgery, his kidneys stopped working due to the magnitude of the operation and the antibiotics he received and he had to undergo dialysis for 5 days, some transfusions and, thank God, they worked again. They also had to perform a colonoscopy as there was a lot of blood in his stool but luckily it had nothing to do with the heart, it was just inflammation.


 
He was hospitalized for another thirty days with antibiotics by vein every four hours to eradicate the bacteria that caused the infection, and finally, on March 30, he was able to return to our daughter's house after 50 days of hospitalization (10 days in the hospital of Frankston and 40 days in Alfred Hospital).


 
Really the doctors and nurses in the hospitals were fabulous, the help we received was enormous since my husband does not know English and my English is limited. And it was also very comforting to feel the warmth of my daughter's friends supporting us at this horrible time in our lives.


 
Unfortunately, we could not return the day we had the ticket, and then Covid 19 appeared.


 
Bupa tells us that the standard coverage that we contract for my father only covers a minimum when it comes to vascular problems, so they only took care of a very small percentage, so we have a debt of AUD 12,548 with the Frankston Hospital and another of AUD 101,626 with Alfred Hospital.


 
We are living with our only daughter, who is a single mother and has two dependent children, in a rented home. She has a low income and adding our pensions we cover our expenses for food, rent and medical insurance. We really don't know how we can collect and pay that sum. We can't even do an event to raise funds due to Covid19. We are really very concerned and that is why we are writing to ask for help. If any of you know of someone, or any media or company that helps in these cases, or you yourself have the desire to help us with money, we thank you from the bottom of our heart, even if the sum seems minimal, whatever ... it will do a lot in our lives.

Queridos amigos

La vida nos sorprende con nuevas situaciones y hoy les escribimos para pedir ayuda porque estamos realmente en una situación angustiante.

Mi esposo Carlos Bellido y yo vinimos a Australia a visitar a nuestra hija y nuestros nietos en Noviembre 2019 ya que ella tuvo una separación muy complicada en Septiembre del año pasado.

Teniamos fecha de regreso para el 21 de Febrero pero lamentablemente mi esposo Carlos se enfermo. Contrajo una infección en la sangre y tuvieron que operarlo a corazón abierto y reemplazar una válvula cardiaca dañada por la infeccion.
Lo internaron el 10 de Febrero y a los dos días nos dijeron que debían operarlo urgentemente. Nosotros planteamos que no teniamos dinero para afrontar los gastos y quisimos volvernos a Argentina para operarse allá, pero los médicos opinaron que el estado de mi marido era grave y que no podía viajar porque había mucho riesgo, y que lo tenían que operar si o si en Australia para salvarle la vida y que luego nos preocupariamos por los costos.

Luego de la cirugia, sus riñones dejaron de funcionar por la magnitud de la operacion y por los antibióticos que recibió y le tuvieron que realizar dialisis durante 5 días, algunas transfusiones y gracias a Dios, volvieron a funcionar. Tambien tuvieron que realizarle una colonoscopia ya que habia mucha sangre en su materia fecal pero por suerte no tenía que ver con el corazón, fue solo una inflamación.

Estuvo internado durante treinta días mas con antibióticos por vena cada cuatro horas para erradicar la bacteria que provocaba la infección, y finalmente, el 30 de Marzo pudo regresar a la casa de nuestra hija después de 50 días de internación (10 días en el hospital de Frankston y 40 días en el Hospital Alfred).

Realmente los medicos y enfermeros de los hospitales fueron fabulosos, fue enorme la ayuda que recibimos ya que mi marido no sabe inglés y mi inglés es limitado. Y tambien fue muy reconfortante sentir la calidez de los amigos de mi hija apoyandonos en este momento tan horrible en nuestras vidas.

Lamentablemente no pudimos volver el día que teníamos el pasaje, y encima luego apareció el Covid 19.
Bupa nos dice que la cobertura standard que le contratamos a mi papá solo cubre un minimo cuando se trata de problemas vasculares por lo que solo se hicieron cargo de un porcentaje muy chico por lo que tenemos una deuda de AUD 12.548 con el Hospital Frankston y otra de AUD 100599 con el Hospital Alfred.

Estamos viviendo con nuestra unica hija, que es madre soltera y tiene dos hijos menores a cargo, en una vivienda alquilada. Ella tiene un ingreso bajo y sumando nuestras jubilaciones cubrimos nuestros gastos de alimentacion, alquiler y seguro medico. Realmente no sabemos de qué manera podemos juntar y pagar esa suma. Y ni siquiera podemos hacer un evento como para recaudar fondos por el Covid19.

Realmente estamos muy preocupados y por eso les escribimos para pedir ayuda.
Si alguno de ustedes sabe de alguien, o algún medio o empresa que ayude en estos casos, o ustedes mismos tienen el deseo de ayudarnos con dinero, se los agradecemos de corazón, aunque les parezca mínima la suma, lo que sea... hará mucho en nuestras vidas.
