If not you, then who?

If not now, then when?

Help us to build another outdoor enclosure for feral kitties of Eastern Ontario!

Hello ladies and gentlemen, my name is Walter! On behalf of my friends, I am begging you for just a few minutes of your time to read about my home! With just five minutes you could change my life - and the lives of my friends!

This is me! I'm handsome, right?

To understand why my home is so special and important, I have to tell you a bit about my life. I was born inside a human home. I was a happy little fella when I was a kitten. But, then the unimaginable happened; when I got older I was given away to live with another family. I don't know why, but they neglected me and eventually let me out of their house. Outside, I looked for food and shelter, but I wandered too far and got lost. I was so scared and I almost lost my mind! People were chasing me, throwing stones at me, and I was always starving. I was cold, hungry, thirsty, and very lonely. Sometimes when I approached people for help they scared me or tried to hurt me! So, to protect me I would try to be scary, too!

I was very good at being scary! People said that I was acting this way because I was sick, saying that I had rabies! They wanted to kill me. But, the only thing I wanted was to find my family. Eventually, many people organized a chase to kill me. Imagine that! Just when I thought I was going to die, a lady from Street Cats of New Eden found me and took me away! Ela brought me to a beautiful sanctuary located in Eastern Ontario, Canada, near Cornwall. Here I have finally found my home, and now I have so many other furry friends and human guardians! They could see beyond my wall of pretense, beyond the scary act I put on to protect myself. I am a loving softie under the shell of roughness and growling. I will be loved forever here, in this incredible place called Eden.

I was on the highway to hell, only to find myself in paradise! Just look at us!

Here, we are dozens of furry boys and girls who have a similar past. You see, street cats and ferals are very misunderstood! Not very many folks like us. They call us nuisance animals when we find a safe place in their yards, or want us to go away when we beg for food. Life is very hard outside, much harder than the life of an indoor cat. We're just not made to survive without the help of humans. Trust me, I can't live on mice and puddles anymore than you can. But, even if someone catches us and takes us in we are often categorized as 'unadoptable' because we haven't had the chance to develop the same manners or personalities as indoor cats. Even the most kind humans sometimes put us back on the streets, to suffer, to die a slow agonizing death.

But here, at Cats of New Eden, we can roam free and be loved for who and what we are forever! How awesome is that? Well, ladies and gentlemen, I was one of the few lucky ones. There are thousands of my friends on the streets, hiding in the bushes, dreaming of a warm, loving home, and waiting to be rescued. That is why I am telling you about my home and some exciting news: the guardians of Cats of New Eden are building another huge outdoor enclosure for all my other feral cat friends!

Can you chip in because they cannot do it all alone? As you can see, we have a wonderful heated home and we have grass and fields to run free, to play with bugs and observe birds and squirrels with the occasional visit from a raccoon! Imagine this paradise! However, the existing enclosure is fully occupied and hence the need for another one to be built.

Our guardians, Dominic and Ela, work very hard to save every dollar! You can see the enormous amount of work it took just to put the fence posts in!

Folks, it is a huge job – the land needs to be resurfaced and drained, too! With the appropriate drainpipe system, we will not be dragging our feet in mud every time it rains! Even a large gas company had to participate in the drainage system!

We will have some cute outdoor cabanas where we can hang out when it is rainy or windy, along with some strategically placed wooden platforms. Of course, our main house will be in the barn, completely insulated and heated! Even after doing some of the work themselves, our guardians cannot complete this without YOUR help!

This new enclosure will offer great life to about 40 more feral cats who would otherwise be living on the streets! Just look at this view! So, this is it, this is the new incredible place that so many street boys and girls will call their home!

You can always contact my sanctuary, day or night. You can come to meet me and my friends to see for yourselves, too! Every little bit matters, your generosity will enable us to build more enclosures in the future for many other feral cats. The determination and dedication of our guardians, along with your financial help, will not only help me but change the lives of countless other feral and homeless kitties!

If you are interested, here is a rough break of all expenses involved:

  • 33 fence posts (old barn reused and new) 200$
  • 45 cement bags for posts 360$
  • wooden boards (2x6 and 2x4) 1000$
  • 3 day rental of the excavator/backhoe 500$
  • purchase of post-hole auger 1800$
  • chain link fencing 1200$
  • hardware and braces 650$
  • small gate 300$
  • large gate 600$
  • barn cat condo labour 3500$ plus tax = 4068$
  • barn cat condo material 4000$ plus tax = 4520$
  • regrading of the ground surface/installation of the drain system 3500$
  • Total: 18,698$

My dear readers, thank you for all the time you have spent on my little story! If you can spare some money to help me build this beautiful home for my feral friends, I would be extremely grateful and love to meet you! Contact us via our FB page ‘Cats and Cakes of New Eden”! We would love to hear from you, especially if you have any ideas and suggestions! We would love to discuss them all! Meow!
