Dear friends,

We come to you with heavy hearts and a plea for help. Our father, Renny Hagemann who is 83, is facing a challenging battle with both physical and mental health. He finds himself far from home, separated from the support we can offer and the healthcare system that can provide the specialised care he now urgently needs.

A few months ago, Renny suffered a devastating fall, breaking his pelvis and exacerbating existing back and hip issues. Initially, we had hoped for his recovery and a journey back home. However, his health continues to decline, leaving us with no choice but to bring him back to the British healthcare system for the critical support he requires using a medical repatriation company.

To those who may not know Renny personally, let us share a glimpse into his remarkable life. Born in Norway, he grew up in a multitude of countries, including the USA, Denmark, Pakistan, Iran, and Germany. His journey as an adult led him to work for Goodyear, taking him to various locations, including Bermuda and eventually Africa. It was in Africa where his heart truly found its home. Renny's love for the continent blossomed during his time there, immersing himself in its rich tapestry of cultures and experiences.

After exploring Europe with different jobs, Renny was drawn back to Africa, where he worked for a security firm based in Bamako, Mali. Upon retiring, he chose to remain in Mali, relishing in the simplicity of life and cherishing the vibrant people who have become an integral part of his world. But now, as much as he has embraced and cherished his time in Mali, the harsh reality is that his journey in this beautiful land has come to an end. It is time to bring the Hash House Harrier home.

Renny's infectious humour and gregarious nature have left an indelible mark on all who have had the pleasure of meeting him. Once you encounter Renny, his magnetic personality ensures you will never forget him. Throughout his travels, Renny became a member of the Hash House Harriers, an international group of like-minded adventurers who love to combine running with camaraderie and laughter. He fondly referred to it as a drinking club with a running problem. From the vibrant trails of Thailand to the captivating city of Baltimore in Maryland, Renny has shared countless joyous moments with his fellow Hashers. In fact, he proudly served as the Hash Master for the Bamako Branch, leaving an enduring legacy of laughter and spirited escapades.

Our father, Renny, is one of the most brilliant minds we have ever known. However, it is important to note that he has never been one to ask for help. Yet, in this moment, we find ourselves reaching out on his behalf, fully aware of his potential resistance. But the truth is, we cannot bring him back without your generous support.

We humbly ask that you share Renny's story far and wide. Together, we can rally around this incredible man who has brought laughter and light to so many lives.
