TJ is my loving and loyal companion, and recently we went through one of the scariest experiences of our lives. He accidentally swallowed a rib bone, biting it and sharpening it as it made its way into his stomach. I rushed him to the emergency veterinary hospital, where they performed x-rays and discovered the large rib bone stuck near his chest bone, with dangerous shards scattered throughout. The vet gave me two options: a less invasive camera surgery or a more extensive operation. After hours of waiting and consulting with the doctor at the emergency veterinary hospital, it was clear that the second, more invasive surgery was the safest choice for TJ, given the number of bone shards and the risk to his health. I took out a large loan to make sure he got the help he needed, and thankfully, the surgery went well. TJ is now home and recovering, getting stronger every day.

While I am so grateful that TJ is safe, the financial burden has been overwhelming. The emergency surgery and care were very expensive, and I lost my job at the same time. As a student, I am struggling to keep up with these bills and other expenses. TJ means everything to me—I can't imagine life without him. Seeing him in pain was heartbreaking, and I did everything I could to make sure he got the care he needed.
