My name is Lela Robichaux and on June 27th, my husband, TJ, and I found ourselves caught up whirlwind style into a journey that is changing everything. He had gone to his doctor earlier in the week about a sore on his big toe that would not heal. From this point, he was sent to a foot specialist who told him to get to the emergency room to be admitted to the hospital for amputation of his toe. We did what he suggested and spent the next 10 days in the hospital where they had to do extensive vein work and eventually amputation of his big toe.

It helps to know that in 2012, TJ was involved in a motorcycle wreck on the way to find out if he had passed nursing school. That wreck broke his leg just below the knee, severed an artery, and caused major nerve damage. They saved his leg then and he spent the next 7 months recovering only to develop a bone infection in the lower leg. He has lived the last 13 years with that bone infection and constant pain due to this accident. And, he passed nursing school and began working as a nurse immediately after he healed from the 9 surgeries he eventually had on that leg.

Fast forward to July 3, 2025. With veins opened, the toe was amputated. Healing seemed promising and he was released to go home on July 7th. Well...healing did not happen as planned and now he is facing having half his foot amputated. TJ has not been able to work for a month and is facing another month recovering (hopefully) from the next surgery planned on July 29th. He has spent his nursing career giving his all to take care of others and now he needs help. He would never ask for it on his own but I will. We need help to cover the medical bills that are coming and to help survive the coming recovery time. We support ourselves but we also help support our son, who has autism, to live independently.
