** UPDATES AS OF 12/17: Tito is confirmed to have squamous cell carcinoma. He is ineligible for surgery because they would not be able to cut out enough tissue to prevent the cancer from returning. He is eligible for palliative radiation therapy, which would stop the cancer from spreading, dry out the skin, and allow his wound to heal, for several months to possibly over a year. However, this is expected to cost at least $8000. His biopsy ($1700) and radiation consult ($250) still need to be paid off, and depending on how successful fundraising is, we might be able to consider radiation therapy. However, the plan now is to make him as comfortable as possible for whatever time he has left. **

Tito is a lovely old man I met 4 months ago when I moved into my new apartment.

Despite his gentle nature, Tito has spent most of his life outside and alone, and has likely been avoided by people who were afraid to touch him since he developed his condition.

I finally got him to the vet last week, where I was told he very likely has skin cancer and needs surgery. He also is confirmed to be over 10 years old and tested positive for FIV — a couple reasons people might say he shouldn’t be treated. But he is full of life, and all he wants is love, so I’m determined to get him the care he needs.

Tomorrow, Tito has a surgery consult, and the vet believes he may need to have part of his face removed to treat the cancer. The costs for his care are expected to be in the thousands, and I want to do everything I can to give him a chance at a happier, healthier life.
