Help Title 1 Students Become Authors
Donation protected
My second-grade class, filled with many emerging writers, recently completed a book focused on using adjectives to describe the unique monsters they designed. Throughout the writing process, students brainstormed ideas, created outlines, and drafted rough versions before polishing their final drafts. Thanks to Studentreasures Publishing, we were able to have this book professionally bound, making all of the students "published authors." While I was able to purchase a single classroom copy, we are a Title 1 school and only three families were able to purchase a copy for their child to keep.
Having a personal copy of this class book would be a meaningful way for these young writers to feel recognized for their creativity and effort. When we reviewed our final drafts before submission, they cheered for each other's work and progress. Seeing their work in print could boost their confidence and inspire a deeper love for writing. We are a full-inclusion school, where many students receive special education services within the classroom rather than being pulled out. The writing process felt daunting, but we persevered, and their confidence grew as a result. It would be wonderful for each student to have a tangible keepsake of their effort—a lasting source of pride that they can share with family and friends.
Individual softcover books, which are the most affordable option, cost $25.95 each. With 22 students still without a copy, the total expense to provide a book for every child would be approximately $570.
Any support would be deeply appreciated!
