Help Tita Resie Recover from Gas Explosion Full-Body Burns in the Philippines
We’re reaching out for help with medical expenses for our aunt, Tita Resie, who recently suffered a devastating accident in the Philippines.
Two weeks ago, a man came to repair her gas stovetop but unfortunately left it leaking. Later that day, Tita Resie turned on the stove—and the propane tank exploded in front of her. The explosion and fire burned her severely from head to toe. She suffered third-degree burns over her whole body, leaving almost no skin left on her. Her condition is so serious and graphic that we’ve chosen not to include any photos of her body.
Miraculously, she is still alive, and our family is with her.
In the Philippines, the situation is very different from here in the states. There’s no way to hold the man responsible—he has no resources, and the legal system doesn’t offer the same protections. Our family does not have health insurance, as it's unaffordable for many Filipinos. So, this situation has quickly become more than we can handle on our own.
We are doing everything we can. Our family is working hard and sending every peso and dollar we can spare to support her treatment. But her care is urgent, ongoing, and costly—and we’re running out of resources.
We’ve lived with Tita Resie in the Philippines, and she really is one of the kindest, warmest people we know. Even now, in what must be an unimaginable amount of pain, she doesn’t complain. She has even said she’s willing to undergo surgery without anesthesia.
She is the bravest person we know—enduring a horrific nightmare: being burned alive. We love her so much.
Tita Resie is also a devoted single mother to her two children, our cousins Carmela and Martin, who are doing everything they can to care for her and contribute toward her treatment.
Despite everything, she remains incredibly hopeful and continues to stay positive.
We truly appreciate you taking the time to read this, and for any support you can give our family.
If you’re able to help, any amount would mean everything. Your support will go directly toward her medical bills, recovery, and the chance for her to heal and survive.
With love and gratitude,
The Valderrama Quintero Family
