LILY POISONING
Last night 2/15/25 we noticed Tiny Kitty had splotches of yellow stains on his chest, and limbs. I knew he had gotten into something but couldnt figure out what. I eventually realized that I had flowers that were out and there were lillies in the bouquet. We are unsure if he fully ingested any parts of the lily but we did see him licking his fur. Even being exposed to the pollen such as licking his fur can be enough to cause a lot of harm. As most of you know lillies are extremely toxic to cats and in most cases fatal if left untreated. I resorted to the emergency vet because I knew with lily toxicity there is no waiting, once symptoms start showing its too late.
Lily poisoning in cats is a life-threatening emergency caused by ingesting any part of true lilies (Lilium or Hemerocallis species), resulting in rapid, severe, and often fatal kidney failure within 3 to 7 days. Even minute amounts—such as licking pollen, chewing a leaf, or drinking vase water—are highly toxic.
He is being admitted to a vet hospital in Torrance CA for two days, which is roughly a 40 minute drive from our home. He will be at the hospital to receive fluid treatment, to keep an eye on any developing symptoms, and to rule out any irreversible life long kidney damage. They are going to be doing extensive care and the cost is $5,286.27, + $195 for the initial emergency exam. All donations will be going towards vet bills, and travel costs during this time. If you know who I am, I’m honestly one of the last people to ask anyone for help, as I strive in my own independence, but this is a lot for anybody to afford on their own. I appreciate even a simple share, as absolutely anything helps.
Thank you,
I will be updating once we know more.
