Help Tinkerbell Recover from Car Accident

Donation protected
Hello everyone, this fundraiser is to help cover the medical expenses for Tinkerbell’s hospital visits as well as recovery.

On Friday, August 5th, I submitted my paperwork for authorization to bring my dog, Tinkerbell, on campus with me this school year as my Emotional Support Animal. On Saturday, August 6th, around 10:15 a.m. Tinkerbell was hit by a speeding car in front of our home while crossing the street to say hello to her neighborhood running friend. At this point I had just awoken due to the yelling of my brothers voice for help. To my knowledge I was running upstairs to be nosey as to why he was yelling only to run outside and see Tinkerbell lying unconscious in the street. Immediately I broke down crying as I couldn’t bear seeing such a sight.

Our neighbors rushed outside to check her pulse and discovered she still had one. My brother and I immediately rushed to the nearest hospital, Cabarrus Animal Hospital. They held her for a few hours until closing around 5 p.m. During her stay they diagnosed her with a critical brain injury, but luckily they had hope. From there they sent me to a 24/6 Emergency Center for additional care, Cabarrus Emergency Veterinary Clinic. They decided to keep her for two nights where they monitored the swelling in her brain (cerebral edema) and her lungs. During treatment she received fluid therapy, pain medication and oxygen therapy.

Thankfully, I was able to pick her up on Monday, August 8th with the expectation of her being able to make a recovery. Before taking her home they instructed us to take her to another emergency room, Carolina Veterinary Specialists, as she still was not ‘all the way there’ and would need additional overnight care. (We had to transfer once again because the previous hospital was closing for the day and had to release their patients).

Tinkerbell is going to need fluids for the next few days and a more intensive nursing care. Tinkerbell is now ambulatory but circles to the left and often falls when walking. She also has decreased sensation in the left part of her face and eyesight troubles, including light sensitivity. After she is released she will need therapy, but I am hoping to be able to work with her myself due to the expenses of therapy.

This fundraiser will help cover the already $4,000 in medical expenses and the additional expenses from our third emergency room trip.

In the days before I just signed her up for a Wellness Plan with Banfield Hospital and was looking into Insurance, but unfortunately did not have it before this incident which is why the medical expense are all out of pocket.

If this story reaches you all I ask is that you share. Interact with it however you can. I am thankful for you reading this far. I am thankful for your prayers for Tinkerbell, my family, and myself. I am thankful for your donations. I am thankful for anything you can give.
