And now?

In March, Timon was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma affecting his tonsil and lymph node.

Carcinoma. It’s a word no one ever wants to hear, whether it’s referring to an animal or a human.

After countless tests, two surgeries, medications, consultations and everything that has come with this journey, which has already cost around €8,000, we have reached the final stretch.

At this point, we are considering palliative care. But that word is more complicated than it sounds.

There will be no more surgeries. But we now have a treatment that may reduce the tumour or keep it stable, which could mean more time and, most importantly, more good quality time for Timon.

But that time and quality of life come at a cost I simply cannot afford on my own: around €1,500 per month.

And that €1,500 is just for his medication.

The medication is called Trametinib, another name I hope you never have to hear, and it costs €50 per day.

I know many of you don’t know Timon. And I can’t ask you to see him the way I do: as my family, my best friend, one of the most important beings in my life.

But if you have nothing to believe in except my word, then let me tell you this:

If everyone in the world had the chance to know Timon, I truly believe the world would be a better place.

He made me a better person. He changed me simply by being who he is.

The least I can do for him now is try everything within my reach to keep him here, with dignity, comfort and quality of life for as long as possible.

Over the years, so many foster dogs have passed through his life. He cared for them, welcomed them and helped them learn to trust again. He gave them confidence simply by being there for them.

So if we can’t give him more time, I want his legacy to live on by continuing to help animals just like him, the way Timon always has.
