Recently, my friend Timmy’s mother, Bernadette, was admitted to the ICU at Asian Hospital in the Philippines after being diagnosed with severe complications from diabetes and a heart blockage. She lost her pulse twice in just two days and has been on life support ever since. With their father already gone, Timmy and his sister are facing the devastating possibility of losing both parents. Timmy is only 18 years old and struggling to find work, and his sister cannot carry the burden alone. To make things even harder, they recently lost about $700 to a scam, leaving them even further behind as they try to raise money for their mother’s care. Her hospital bill has already passed 800,000 Philippine pesos (roughly $13,000 USD) and continues to rise each day she remains in the ICU.
