On the night of November 10th, Timmy experienced a sharp pain that caused him to scream. He was shaking, crying and his back was arched. We rushed him to the vet to find out that he has intervertebral disc disease (IVDD). Since Timmy was still able to walk, we were sent home with medication and was told to put him in cage rest for a few weeks.
The next morning, Timmy lost full control of his lower body. He was not able to use his hind legs and was dragging them behind him. We rushed to the animal hospital again and was then referred to a neurologist. We learned that Timmy was paralyzed and has already lost the ability to poop and urinate. We all feared that we would lose him if his condition progressed.
Fortunately, we learned that Timmy still had some deep pain sensation in his back toes, and we were strongly recommended an emergency spinal surgery for best outcome.
