This fundraiser was originally started to help Tim Turbyfill be able to return home after a lengthy hospitalization. Tim passed away on May 18th, and Amanda's Mom, whom they lived with, passed away unexpectedly on May 21st after a cardiac arrest. We are now focused on helping Amanda, her dependent adult sister and her two children be able to move forward, find stable housing, and recover from such a tremendous loss.

Hello! I'm KerryAnn Foster, fundraising on behalf of the Turbyfill family. All funds raised from this Go Fund Me will go towards ridding the Turbyfill's home of mold so it is safe for Tim to return home again.
Tim spent over 4 months in the last year and a half in the hospital, with long stints in ICU. Tim's lungs and kidneys were damaged when he developed pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome leading to kidney failure in 2021. He is now on dialysis and recovering from the lung damage. His wife, Amanda, and his kids, Carolina and Davis, have been by his side through it all. All four of the Turbyfills have a genetic condition called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, which affects their mobility. The Turbyfills live with Amanda's parents and older sister, who has Russell-Silver Syndrome. All seven family members have significant challenges to their mobility and lung health. Amanda's Dad has emphysema and her mom has asthma.
During his last stay in ICU, it was discovered that part of Tim's lung issues were due to the mold in their basement. The mold is causing severe inflammation and scarring. Tim can not return home until the mold in the basement is remediated, every item in the home is cleaned, the uncleanable items are thrown away, and the things that mold can inhabit are replaced.
The basement, where the mold is located, must be stripped down to the studs and remediated by professionals. Everything upstairs must be removed from the house. Both the structure and the items must be thoroughly cleaned before being returned to the house. The rest of the home must be checked to ensure there isn't any mold upstairs. Items that can't be cleaned must be thrown away.
Competent mold remediation costs tens of thousands of dollars. This process takes a few weeks, a massive amount of labor (including volunteer help) and requires the family to move out while the work is completed. They will need a hotel.
Mold spores spread throughout the home in the air conditioning and heating system. It must be thoroughly scrubbed and remediated by professionals or it will blow spores all over the house as soon as it is turned back on.
Mold spores don't remain on the surface; they migrate through soft items. They must throw out and replace mattresses, some furniture and clothing, books and papers and anything that can't be cleaned all the way through to eliminate the mold spores on and in it. Everything that remains must be scrubbed and returned to the home.
Tim is on oxygen and still trying to recover from his most recent hospital stay. He struggles to be able to breathe well enough and have the energy to make doctor's appointments and care for himself. His recovery is going to take a long time. Daily peritoneal dialysis and all of the doctor appointments Tim needs already have them stretched physically and mentally before you consider the remediation project.
Tim's health is still precarious and he can not live in the house while mold is present. He and Amanda are temporarily staying in their school bus that has been converted to an RV. The heating system on the bus must be repaired. It is already cold in Asheville, and it's only going to get colder as the year progresses. This school bus is also the family's only transportation, as all four members of the Turbyfill family use electric wheelchairs for mobility.
