Help Tim raise funds for Newcastle Phoenix Choir
Following retirement, I became involved with the Newcastle Phoenix Choir. Seeing the positive effect the choir is having on the lives of those involved and the enjoyment they get from singing, I have decided to raise money for them by completing a sponsored cycle ride on 25th and 26th June 2022. The first part of the ride is the Ride to the Sun (RTTS 2022 ), a 100-mile overnight ride from Carlisle to Cramond, Edinburgh, arriving in time to see the sunrise. The second part of the ride is to cycle home to the Tyne Valley! The total distance is about 230 miles which I aim to complete in 24 hours!
The Newcastle Phoenix Choir is a group that welcomes everyone who would like to sing, with no exceptions.
Newcastle Phoenix Choir began life at J's & B's Church, Fenham in August 2021 following Streetwise Opera’s withdrawal from the North East after the Covid pandemic. Former Streetwise workshop leaders Simon Davies-Fidler (who is also the Director of Music at J’s & B’s) and Liz Milner wanted to create a new place for the Streetwise performers to continue the excellent work of Streetwise Opera, and so Newcastle Phoenix Choir was born!
Whilst Streetwise Opera’s mission is to engage with people who have experienced homelessness, Newcastle Phoenix Choir’s scope is wider: we welcome singers from all backgrounds, especially people who haven’t yet found a choir that suits their needs. Our simple mission is to give our members an uplifting experience through singing and socialising.
The choir costs just over £8000 a year to run so I hope you will feel able to give generously to support this worthy cause.
