Hi, my name is David Whiteis, and this is a GoFundMe for my friend Tim Bishop.
In short, Tim has been through some tough times lately, and now he is at the place where he thinks he will have to sell his car in order to pay some overdue property taxes, or else he will lose his home.
Let’s give him some breathing room so he can keep his car, which will allow him to continue his recovery from a big medical problem, and rebuild his home repair and handyman business. He has been making great progress on his recovery, regaining the ability to walk again and rebuilding his business.
Here's Tim's own words to show you the situation:
- This is a summary of what I went through. I think that people who donate would like to know the circumstances involved around the people that they donate to. This puts things into perspective showing what happened and why I'm in this situation.
- In April of 2018 I started having severe pain in my left hip. I couldn't walk and after 5 straight days of doctor visits they were unable to diagnose the cause of the pain. My 5th visit was on a Friday and ended with me being taken by ambulance to Suburban Hospital. By Sunday morning I developed severe pneumonia and was put on a respirator. I was finally diagnosed with having MRSA, which is an antibiotic resistant bacterium. This caused me to develop sepsis, which caused my immune system to go into overload and attack my own body. They did surgery on Monday to remove the infected tissue from my hip joint. They were able to work up a combination of antibiotics that slowly fought off the infection. I spent over 2-1/2 months in the hospital. My kidneys were badly damaged by the sepsis, and I had to receive dialysis 3 days per week for 4 hours per treatment, which lasted for over 5 months. After my release, I couldn't walk and could barely get around with crutches. It took 2 more years before I was healthy enough to go through hip replacement surgery. The hip replacement went well, but the atrophy caused by not being able to move around for that amount of time took months for me to overcome.
- I do home improvement / handyman type work. When I recovered enough to start taking on some small jobs, the transmission went out in my work van. I've been doing what I can working out of my car, but not being able to have all of my tools with me is very inefficient and causes many delays. Anything over the amount I need to pay my taxes can go to repairing my work van.
Tim is a good guy and could use this break. Some of you know him because he has done some home repairs and plumbing work for several of us. He has also helped a lot of strangers in Montgomery County, through donating about 14 deer that he has harvested in the last several years to the Montgomery County “Farmers & Hunters Feeding the Hungry” program.
The ask: here's Tim's details on the amounts:
- I am behind on real estate taxes for 2022 and 2023. A law firm has a tax sale certificate for my 2022 taxes. That amount due is just over $3100, plus the law firm fees of $750. My 2023 taxes are just over $2700.
- The county charges interest daily on delinquent taxes. I have to pay the law firm for the 2022 taxes and the attorney fees by February 2, 2024. If not paid by that date they will be able to proceed with getting a tax lien on my house.
- $3,105.62 - 2022
- $785.26 - 2022 lawyer fees
- $2704.12 - 2023
- ====
- $6,595.00 - total
Won't you do what you can please - David.
