Beloved local theater couple Tim West & Betty Matthews are losing their South Park home of 20 years. The owners obtained court permission to sell the trust-fund property commercially, because of 'hardship' in pandemic—though Tim and Betty have never even been late with their rent. The cottages they live in (& Tim's beloved garden) have been placed with a broker, priced to sell, and likely targeted as a 'tear down' toward South Park's gentrification. So, the couple have to divest themselves of many valued items, and obtain affordable digs that allow for Tobey, their cat. They are both in their late 50s, Betty an essential worker but Tim at the end of his UI benefits, furloughed from regular employment in theatre. Tim teaches theater to kids and veterans, writes plays, acts, and is just one of the best people I know (he also suffers from chronic pain which of course is worse now because of stress and physical work). Betty worked her way through UCSD and Circle-in-the-Square, and is (Tim says) "loved by all the best people." We theater-folk are a loving, caring community and these two represent our community as well as anyone out there. Haven’t we all been there, and had people help us out? Can you help with a small contribution toward a greater good? I hope you can!
