Tilly is a 14 year old cat who my partner has had since she was nine years old, and has been her constant companion for over half her life. We moved out after university in March, and Tilly’s previously very clean bill of health has been in decline ever since.
Soon after we moved out we had to take Tilly to the emergency vets, where after some blood tests it was revealed that she was suffering with such bad anaemia that she shouldn’t have still been with us. We were suggested to get a blood transfusion, which we couldn’t possibly have afforded, but somehow Tilly managed to push through with just a steroid treatment, and her condition began to stabilise throughout May. During this time she lost partial use of her tail, but we were advised that the lost mobility may come back with time.
After nearly three months of steroids and treatments for anaemia, the vets have discovered that Tilly’s body is using all of its energy to fight off necrosis in her tail which is worsening her other conditions. If left untreated this could cause her to develop diabetes, asthma, and worsen her anaemia.
My partner can only work part-time due to ongoing tendonitis, and I am currently doing all I can to find work, I have been searching for employment since we moved in March, but have been so far unsuccessful.
While we do have pet insurance, after all the payments for her anaemia treatment we are unable to pay for this amputation which could potentially save her life. If you have anything you can donate, every bit will help as we try to keep Tilly healthy for as long as we can. Thank you for reading.
