Hi, we are Vanessa and Victor, Tiki's parents. Tiki is an 11-year-old Yorkshire terrier who has been fighting for her life at Blue Pearl NYC hospital for the last 8 days.

Tiki was admitted on the evening of December 26, 2022, with severe acute pancreatitis that developed into a liver and gallbladder infection. After spending two nights in ICU, Drs. found liquid in her lungs generated by the inflammation her body was experiencing and/or due to a clot that her body developed.

On Wednesday, December 28,2022, Tiki was in critical condition with slight chances of survival. We decided to give her a chance and continue fighting with and for her. Tiki was put on an oxygen cage to help her breathe and stabilize her breathing condition and an anticoagulant to help her body prevent any future clots. She also received a feeding tube and antibiotics, and painkillers via IV.

As the days progressed, Tiki showed us a positive development and higher chances of survival. Her liver and gallbladder inflammation values stabilized, and her pancreatitis improved. The lingering issue has been her oxygen rate, which is going up and down. A standard oxygen level is at 20%, she started with the highest rate, and she has been between 60%-40% in the last few days.

Tiki needs the care to stabilize her breathing rate fully and stop being dependent on the oxygen cage. We need time, so her body continues to fight and dilute the liquid out of her lungs.

Today marks 8 days that Tiki has been in the hospital, and seeing her improvement only makes us realize that we made the right decision by not putting her to sleep the day she was on the verge of leaving us. Tiki has been in our lives for 11 years; she's been part of the most important moments: our graduations, wedding, and anniversaries; through ups and downs, she has always been a loyal and loving companion to us. We only want her to continue being with us until she can.

We are creating this fund because we are currently taking all the monetary responsibility that having her in ICU for over a week incurs. Her health insurance, which we pay $250 monthly, only covers 7k out of the entire bill, and she can't get a new insurance plan due to her pre-existing conditions. We are hopeful that through this initiative, we will raise as much money as possible to continue providing Tiki the care she needs.
