Hiya, my name's Tiger and I'm fundraising to get top surgery in the New Year.
I'm 20 years old and came out as transgender almost 7 years ago, despite having been on the NHS waiting list to medically transition for 5 years I haven't even had a first appointment yet. This has meant I've had to access HRT through a private service, and I'm now trying to get Top Surgery the same way.
This surgery would genuinely change my life. Even just simple things like not having restricted breathing or pain from years of binding, being able to swim comfortably in the summer, or being able to put on a shirt in the morning without worrying about how it looks would make my life so much better. It's been deeply tiring to have to live without this surgery for so long and I'm so ready to start the part of my life that comes after it.
Unfortunately, private Top Surgery in the UK costs over £10k - and most people don't have that kind of money just lying around. So this fundraiser is to raise money for my pre surgery costs (referrals and consultations), travel costs, and for me to live normally while taking 6 weeks off work to recover from surgery. If I'm able to put some of this money towards the actual cost of surgery that would be incredible, but I'm not expecting to raise £10k.
If you're unable to donate there are other ways to help - this isn't only a Trans issue, it's a class issue too, and inaccessible healthcare is something that affects all of us. Our NHS is falling apart at the hands of a government that cares more about funding overseas war than people living in terrible conditions in the UK.
So oppose anti-trans legislation/guidance, protest, organise on a class basis and fight for a world that you want to live in - and that trans people like me can live easily and comfortably in.
(And/or donate to my fundraiser, please :))
