I'm Ciera Kueser and my identical twin, Tiani, and her husband are currently living a new parent's worst nightmare. Tiani just gave birth to Davis and at 10 days old, the baby began to struggle. At 10 am on Friday morning, AJ brought Davis to Tiani and pointed out how fast his heart seemed to be beating. They could see his little heart racing in his chest. Then Tiani noticed how fast his breathing was too. She immediately got her stethoscope out and started to listen to Davis' heart. She knew something wasn't right when she heard his little tiny heart beating so fast she couldn’t even count them to estimate a heart rate. They ran to the car and sped to Primary Children's Hospital in Lehi.
The team in Lehi was great, but they didn't have an entire cardiology team on staff, just one cardiologist since it was the weekend. The cardiologist was in constant communication with the cardiology team in salt lake especially as Davis’ little heart did not respond to the first 3 trials of medication to bring his heart rate down and to a normal rhythm. Davis’ case was becoming increasingly complex. They knew Davis needed more help and were planning on life-flighting him right away, but then things took a turn for the worst. Davis' heart was shaking, not beating like it should. They watched their baby turn purple right in front of their eyes, and the team was seconds away from shocking Davis in a last-ditch effort to bring his heart back to some kind of normal. Miraculously, just before the shock was administered, Davis' heart converted to a somewhat more normal rythmn. They intubated him and got Tiani and Davis in the life flight helicopter right away. They flew to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City, where they were met with three different teams to continue to try to get Davis somewhat stable to diagnose what was going on with his little heart.
Davis was diagnosed with Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT - Super fast heartbeat). He's one of the youngest patients the team has seen since most babies who have this end up in the NICU at the moment they are born. Tiani, AJ, and Davis have been at Primary Children's for days now, and the future looks uncertain. They don't know when Davis will be stable and if his body will respond to different medications well. Medical bills are piling up all while Tiani is recovering from 3rd-degree tearing from labor and delivery, sleepless nights, the struggles of becoming a new mom, and this trauma of almost losing her baby. Anything helps Tiani and her sweet family during this trial ❤️ Donations also accepted via Venmo to @Tiani-Orr (code 1589)
