Hi! My name is Tianay Nickens and I am crowdfunding to raise money for my second short film, Dissapointe. Proceeds will go towards helping fund locations, craft services/lunch for my crew, paying talent and production design. Anything helps!

ABOUT ME: My name is Tianay, and I am a 26-year-old director from The Bronx, New York. I am currently studying to receive my Masters of Fine Arts in Film and Television Production at Loyola Marymount University. For my bachelors, I attended Occidental College where I majored in Media Production.

A little about Dissapointe:

LOGLINE: Sixteen-year-old Emoni prepares for a pivotal dance recital, pushing herself to her breaking point in the hopes that her absent father will show up this time.

SYNOPSIS: Emoni, a 16-year-old dancer, is preparing for the biggest performance of her life—a shot at a scholarship to The Ailey School. When her long-absent father promises to attend, she throws herself into training, determined to be perfect for him. Despite gentle warnings from her mom and best friend, Emoni holds onto hope that this time will be different. Dissapointe is a heartfelt coming-of-age story about navigating disappointment, perfection and expectations, and realizing that being enough has nothing to do with being perfect.

BRIEF ARTIST STATEMENT:

As a black woman, my central goal is to create stories for black people, by black people. I aim to create stories that will make people escape the reality they are living, and dive into the worlds of my work. I tell stories that reflect the complex black experience, while also celebrating the radiant nature of what it is to be black.

I specialize in creative directing, production design and directing. My biggest strength is bringing other people’s visions to life. You give me an idea; I make it happen. I enjoy making films of romance, drama and avant-garde. The work I create are pieces that you can’t look away from, are visually appealing, and leave you wanting more.
