Help Tiana and her family rebuild her home

Donation protected
I met Tiana when she was 16 yo.  A very bright gifted teen who had the dream of becoming an artist.  Her beautiful smile and her extremely positive vision of life besides all her health challenges made her quickly become part of family. Last week I reached out to her to see how they did  after hurricane Laura and I was saddened to learn that they lost everything they own during the storm.  She is way too humble and shy to ask for help herself so I decided to jump in and create this page for them. Please take the time to read her story and if you can please contribute to help them to start over. Here is Tiana sharing the story in her own words:  "As many know, Hurricane Laura did some serious damage in Louisiana. Many, many homes were destroyed.   As if the hurricane itself wasn’t bad enough, the storm caused tornadoes on my street, and unfortunately, they destroyed my house. Thankfully, my family and I had followed our gut and gone to stay with a friend on the military base about 20 minutes further north, and it’s a darn good thing we did.  We may not all be alive if we didn’t. Two trees went right through the roof of the room next to where we would have been trying to sleep—the room our dogs would have been in. There is major structural damage to the house. We don’t even know what’s salvageable at this point. There has been rain since the storm, which has only caused further damage to our belongings. The shingles on the outside of our house are also made of asbestos, so everything inside has been exposed and contaminated. My husband is a medical officer in the US Army, and we are stationed at Fort Polk in Louisiana. We have a 14 month old son, I’m currently 22 weeks pregnant with our daughter, and two crazy dogs. I have  a rare connective tissue disorder called hypermobile Ehler’s Danlos Syndrome, and my body acts up at the worst times  causing all sorts of systemic issues including joint dislocations, severe fatigue and severe generalized pains. I’m just praying I can stay put together without my special bed, access to my TENS unit, foam roller and exercise equipment I need to use daily to manage my symptoms. My back has been giving me issues for weeks now, I think it’s been due to the barometric pressure changes leading up to the storm, but I’m hanging in there.  We have applied to live on a military housing, but they are also out of power and internet and it will be a while before they respond back to us. Right now, we are homeless, and have lost most of what we own. We are almost hoping at this point that our insurance company deems the house a  complete loss so don't need to continue paying for a house we can't even live in, and then we can just move on and start over. But even if we get the military housing arrangement we still have to buy all my medical equipment again, my  baby's toys, clothes for all of us just to begin to mention, but the list goes on.  Thank you for reading this. We hate asking for help, as we respect and understand that we are all going through difficult times with the pandemic, but it’s so incredibly appreciated if you could reach out and help us even if it is with a small donation. God Bless!!!"
