We are sad to report that yesterday, Monday October 26th our beautiful outdoor dance complex was completely dismantled and destroyed by the Santa Ana winds. Despite our flooring and tents being secured with weighted buckets, staples, stakes and reinforcements, the tent poles broke causing the tents to lift, the floors to tear apart and the lights to shatter. Our $30,000 outdoor investment was destroyed in only a few hours.
After being closed for 6 months due to Covid restrictions we were determined to keep our business afloat and create a safe, outdoor, distanced space for our dancers ages 3-18. Not only was it important to us to keep our business open for our 22 teachers, 5 staff members and our own livelihood, we desperately wanted our students, who had been home for 6 months, to have a place to return to for a sense of normalcy. It's painful to imagine our students not having their home away from home. Providing a happy place for them to stay active, see their teachers and friends and to keep their passion for dance was our priority.
We invested $30,000 in creating our outdoor dance space which included shock absorbent floors, Marley floor coverings, large tent canopies, outdoor lighting along with outdoor stereos, traffic safety equipment and parking lot barriers.
In the morning on Monday, October 26th mother nature had a different plan for our space. The Santa Ana winds came through like a tornado and despite all of our preparations destroyed the outdoor dance complex.
At this moment in time we are doing our best to figure out our next steps. We have been able to sustain our business through 6 months of restrictions. While we are permitted to be indoors at 10%, that limitation does not allow us to make enough money to survive. Furthermore with unpredictable Covid restrictions it is difficult to anticipate what is needed in the coming months. Our outdoor space provided an opportunity to make ends meet, keep our students safe, our staff employed and our thrive community today. Without our outdoor space we are left with an uncertain future.
