Because sometimes, we don’t just rescue them—they rescue us too.

I’ll never forget the moment I met Thor.

It was late, and I had just finished a shift at Walmart in Mississippi. I was in a rough place in my life—working hard, worn out, and feeling lost. As I stepped into the parking lot, I spotted a dog running loose, weaving between cars, dangerously close to the path of an oncoming truck.

Instinct kicked in. I knelt down and softly called to him, not even knowing if he’d listen. But to my surprise, he ran straight to me, leaned into me, and looked at me with eyes that said “I’m yours now.”

I checked for tags—nothing. I took him to the vet to see if he had a microchip—he didn’t. And that’s when I realized: this wasn’t a coincidence. We found each other for a reason.

I took him home, named him Thor, and from that day forward, we’ve been inseparable. He’s not just a pet—he’s my emotional support animal, my best friend, and my constant companion. Thor has walked with me through major life changes—moving to Florida, changing jobs, and even getting through the heartbreak of a divorce. Through it all, he has been by my side, following me from room to room, always making sure I’m okay.

Now, it’s my turn to make sure he is okay.

Recently, Thor was diagnosed as heartworm positive. Treatment is expensive, and while I’m doing everything I can, the cost is more than I can manage alone. The longer we wait, the more damage the heartworms can do. I can't imagine a life without Thor—and I know he’s still got so much more life and love to give.
