Hello, my name is Thomas Hageman. I’m a husband and father of 4, and I am also a Shift Captain for a local fire department.

On October 15, 2025, I suffered a medical episode that has now placed me on limited duty. Because of the cost, I currently do not have medical insurance, and workers’ compensation has elected not to cover any of the testing or treatment I am going through.

Current Medical Costs I’m Facing

Estimated total out-of-pocket cost: $8,000

I am doing everything I can to complete the medical testing and treatment needed so I can return to full duty and continue serving my community doing the job I love. But as of right now, I am facing significant medical debt from all the testing, appointments, and treatment that is required.

I am trying to cover as much as I can on my own, but this has placed a very heavy financial strain on me and my family. We have even had to put a move we’ve been planning for months on hold until this situation is resolved. As a husband, father, and provider, this is extremely hard to admit, but I’m reaching out for help.
