Help this young Venezuela family with shelter
Donation protected
This is Edgar, Maigualida, Elieska, and Maria.
They left Venezuela about 6 years ago to seek a better life for their family.
They built a life and successful business in Peru. However, Venezuelans living in Peru are threatened, extorted, and assaulted.
It wasn't safe for Elieska and Maria.
In September, they were extorted by a gang and forced to abandon everything in a matter of days
After selling all their possessions, they had 3,000 dollars for the journey.
They walked through the Darién Gap.
They were extorted and robbed along the way.
By the time they arrived in Mexico, they didn't have any money left. They had to sleep on the street and in shelters.
A week ago, they arrived in the U.S. lawfully with humanitarian parole.
They arrived to Salt Lake City with one change of clothes and no money.
They were malnourished and hungry.
Their story is harrowing and heartbreaking, but they’re endured it all and are incredibly grateful and humble to be here.
The refugee and nonprofit organizations in the region cannot provide housing until the government has awarded asylum, which could take upwards of 18 months.
We've put together this gofundme with the hope to raise enough money to pay for a couple months rent, allowing Edgar and Maigualida to start working and become self sufficient.
If it’s at all within your means, please consider donating.
Who’s writing this? We, Matt and Jarett, have been deeply impacted by this family and had felt compelled to help them out. A friend of Jarett’s met this family in Mexico when they had ran out of money and were sleeping in the streets—she helped them out and got them to the border. Jarett met them at the bus stop in Phoenix and helped them get to the airport. Matt picked them up from the airport in SLC and has been keeping them safe and fed for the time being.
We know that if you took the time to get to know this family, you’d want to help too!
