Ladies and gents... today, while working in the Fresno area I found a dog on the 99 North, hit by a vehicle, sitting in the median, as cars drove 90 mph past her. Not on my watch! I pulled over, got this baby into my car, and took her to the nearest vet.
She's in bad shape. She has a shattered left leg, multiple fractures in the right, a fractured pelvis, and a dislocation entirely of one of her legs from her pelvic bone. The vet assumed I would euthanize as she's a stray but after assessing there is no internal bleeding... I told them to give her the best quality of life.
This particular vet, however, handed me an estimate of 3k just for 48 hours of hospitalization (no vet tech between 8 pm and 7 am) and couldn't produce an estimate for surgery. So, I am currently transporting this pup back to Murrieta, where I reside, so that we can get her better veterinary care.
Today's visit cost me over $600. I'm only assuming her surgeries will be north of 5k. I need to know a reputable vet who can perform the surgery at a reasonable cost understanding that I am simply a Good Samaritan who is trying to give this poor girl a real chance at life. I have her diagnosis papers next to me and a CD with her x-rays. They estimated her to be about a year and a half and this poor girl has clearly had her fair share of puppies.
I made sure I have enough pain meds, ant inflammatory meds, and antibiotics to stabilize her through the night. Not opposed to an RN showing up with an IV bag just to keep her hydrated. Her temp upon arrival was 104. When we left is was 100.4. Her CBC showed low platelets (indicative of Rick Horne illness) and raised white blood cells... typical of infection. They assume her fractures are several days old contributing to the infections she's fighting.
