Mackenzie Mulindwa Memorial Fund

God bless you all, family and friends. Bernard Mulindwa's daughter, Kenzie, was born with sickle cell anemia, a blood disease that has claimed millions of lives in the World. In Uganda, and some parts of Africa, a diagnosis with this dreadful disease is a death sentence. We were therefore devastated when Kenzie was diagnosed with the disease at the age of one. But as she grew up, Kenzie became our pillar of strength, our comforter and ray of hope that all would  be well. We stayed strong because Kenzie’s faith in her healing was always unwavering and infectious. Kenzie never let the physical strain associated with sickle cell steal life’s pleasurable moments from her. Even though she was warm, cheerful, and exploded with life, we chose to fight the disease, to give our daughter a new lease of life. When Kenzie turned eight, we moved her to the USA to get better treatment. A team of specialists and nurses at Tufts took her on and explored a series of treatment regimes that culminated in a stem cell transplant operation in January 2018. From then on, it was a relentless battle to recovery from the operation. Unfortunately, on the morning of September 13,2018, at about 7:00 am, Kenzie lost the fight. We lost the fight. Kenzie, a student at Mystic Valley Regional Charter School in Malden, passed on at Tufts Medical Hospital, Boston. But even in her last moments, Kenzie, together with prayer, continued to be our fountain of hope and comfort. “Daddy, don’t worry. I will be okay,” she said. Those were her partying words to a father. Kenzie, you have left family and friends with hearts ripped in shreds, but we know that you  are indeed okay with the angels.
