Hi guys,
A few weeks ago while travelling to a friend's house, we came across a kitten laying in the rain on the side of a gravel road. Initially, we thought it had passed away. However, on the way back we noticed the tiny kitten had weakly raised its head and was looking around. Immediately we stopped to pick it up, check for any others, dry it off and warm it up. This is also when we noticed - it's a girl! And she is less than a month old! Our kids promptly named her Willow. We decided we would keep her for the time being, since we all know that shelters are quite overwhelmed. We were originally planning to find her a new home when she was back in good health.
A day later, however, we noticed her eye was swelling. A LOT. We immediately got her in to a vet, and started treatment. After a week or so we had noticed zero signs of improvement. We took her in again, and by this point her eye had grown 4x what it should be. Our vet told us this is due to an ulcer, and possibly glaucoma due to trauma. We now have her on new medications, and will be continuing with weekly/bi-weekly vet checkups.
Unfortunately, this is causing a lot of strain on our already very tight budget. We are a family of 5 (and at times, 6!) and are caring for multiple animals already. We were unprepared to take on a tiny kitten with such heavy medical costs, however we are also unwilling to let her suffer. Family has graciously helped us deal with the costs, but this cannot last.
So far we have spent roughly $2000 on this surprise! Asking the public for help financially is extremely out of my comfort zone, but it is something I feel is necessary at this point. So, THANK YOU to anybody who considers donating. And THANK YOU, even if all you can do is send love and hope for Willow.
