For over 20 years, Zim and his wife have built a life, a family, and a home in St. Vincent & the Grenadines — a small Caribbean nation known for its warmth, resilience, and community spirit. Now, after years of hardship beyond their control, they are facing the heartbreaking prospect of losing that home.

Zim Cadogan is a hardworking, loving father and husband. In a small island economy where opportunities are limited, he has spent many years doing everything he can to support his family — working as a driver, a tour guide, and taking on odd jobs whenever they arise. His wife worked faithfully for the regional airline LIAT for decades, but when the company collapsed during COVID-19, she and hundreds of other employees were left without severance or final pay. Six years later, that money has still never come.

Despite their best efforts, the ripple effects of the pandemic and economic downturn have been devastating. Work in tourism remains inconsistent, and the family has struggled to keep up with their mortgage payments. They never stopped paying, but often could not afford the full amount. After months of discussions, their lender has now issued an ultimatum: either settle the remaining balance of EC$325,000 (around $100,000 USD / £90,000 GBP) or face foreclosure on the home they’ve lived in for 21 years.

In Zim’s own words:

“I’ve been trying my best for years to keep food on our table and take care of my family… if we lose our home, it will be almost impossible to start over. I feel like I’m losing it, even though I’ve worked so hard and tried my very best.”

After months of negotiation, the Building & Loan Association has agreed to a settlement — but the payment must be made soon to stop foreclosure.
