Hi, I'm Theresa, and my life has had a significant change since March 25th.
My daughter, Sylvia, is critically ill. She started getting sick on the 22nd. She got a little worse every day, and on the night of the 24th, she was trying to sleep on the bean bag in our living room. She was vomiting almost all night, and she was on her back. I couldn't get her to sit up or turn to her side, so she aspirated into her lungs. The next morning, we took her to the ER at Portneuf Hospital. They did a CT scan of her chest and found air and fluid in her chest, and they thought they saw a tear in her esophagus. The doctor told us that people die from that and that I should be prepared.
They transported her to Ogden Regional Medical Center by LifeFlight. Richard and I drove here that night and have been here since.
They took her into surgery as soon as we got here. One surgeon went in and examined her esophagus from top to bottom and did not find a tear anywhere. But he saw some air and fluid in her abdomen, so he called in another surgeon who did an exploratory surgery on her abdomen. He found a cyst on her ovary that was as big as a football, and it had holes in it and was spewing pus all over her abdomen. Part of her colon had fused itself to the cyst and was leaking stool into the cyst, and it burst and spread more pus and stool all over her abdomen and chest.
All of that has caused her to be in sepsis and in septic shock. She also has pneumonia, fluid in and around her lungs, and abscesses all over her abdomen. They can't drain the biggest one because they can't get to it due to scar tissue, and if they can't drain it, they can't get rid of the infection. She has a blood clot in her inferior vena cava, which can be life-threatening. Her blood is infected. She is on total life support and hasn't initiated breathing on her own in 3 days.
She has made a couple of improvements. Her white blood count has returned to normal; they have been high since she has been here. And the sepsis is clearing a little.
There is a chance of her recovering. If so, it's going to be a very long recovery, which will involve her being in ICU for at least one more week. Then, if she's strong enough, she will be transported to an acute rehab hospital. Her stay there could be anywhere from 2 months to forever.
So, we are looking for help with lodging. There is an RV park behind the hospital here. Does anyone have an RV that we could borrow? We have a Suburban we can pull it with. If that doesn't happen, we would need money for hotels. I cannot leave her; the doctors are saying it is important for me to be here for her.
Please help us with whatever amount you can afford.
Thank you and God bless.
