For as long as I can remember, my dream was to raise my children in the same neighborhood where I grew up—right next to Hammerfield/Greenfield baseball. Our home was a place of laughter, community, and belonging. I watched ball games from my porch, hosted outdoor movies, s’mores, and pool parties for my children and their friends, and built a true sense of togetherness. The house I was able to buy wasn’t even on the market—I had a dream one night, called the owner, and by the grace of God, the timing was perfect. It was a dream come true for any kid, big or small, in our neighborhood.
My career in investment management for real estate gave me the tools to build my credit, save, and make this dream a reality. I had plans to expand the home for my large family, including our extended church and community family. When my husband and I reunited, we fostered our nephews, and I began closing my real estate business, planning for my house to be my last project so I could focus on raising my children and building a life together.
But life took an unexpected turn. Faulty home repairs made our house unsafe, and after living in those conditions for over a year, I had to make the heartbreaking decision to move myself, my four children, our dog, and our cat out of our dream home. The stress and instability have taken a toll on our mental, emotional, and physical health. I’m now navigating divorce, custody, and support court, and despite my best efforts, I’m unable to receive public assistance. My landlord has been incredibly gracious, but he can’t carry the financial weight of the mortgage alone.
Recently, my health has declined further having issues even walking sometimes from severe pain due to neurological issues. I had to stop working DoorDash, and even had to pause a new opportunity as a co-developer for an affordable housing project in my neighborhood, a role that was the next step in my career. My hope is to rest, regain my strength and health, and return to pursuing my dreams—raising my children in the home and community I worked so hard for, and giving back through my work.
Right now, support would mean stability for my family. Donations will help us with:
- Rent, so we can avoid eviction and stay together
- Groceries and essentials for my children
- Wifi for my daughter’s virtual schooling
- A birthday gift and small joys to help my kids feel special during this difficult time
Most importantly, your help will prevent homelessness and keep my family together as I work toward recovery and stability. Even $10 or $25 helps more than you know. Please donate if you can, and share our story with anyone who might understand.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for helping us hold onto hope. Your support means the world to us.
