Hi, I'm Theo! I'm a transgender student from the Shenandoah Valley, and I am kindly and hesitantly looking for support in funding my top surgery. A little bit about me: I'm an artist studying creative technologies at Virginia Tech (go Hokies!), I love writing, especially poetry, and I run a DIY apparel business. I came out as transgender in 2021, at fourteen, and it has been an uphill battle ever since, although I have been supported by my friends and family every step of the way. Now, I am facing a point that, unfortunately, requires more than just the support of those closest to me. I am on the road to getting top surgery (double mastectomy) late this year or early next year, and my insurance is only willing to cover so much, leaving me to deal with the difference, which is a number neither my family nor I are able to pay in its entirety. This surgery is going to be life-saving for me. I deal with regular chest dysphoria that dramatically decreases my mental well-being, and the daily wearing of chest compression garments and trans tape has led to routine back/rib pain and skin damage over time. I know that top surgery will drastically increase my quality of life, and my hope is that I will be able to heal without the threat of immense medical debt hanging over me.
