THEO'S STORY - ENGLISH

Hi there! We are Ryan and Diana, and three weeks ago, we welcomed a lovely French Bulldog named Theo into our lives. His previous owner could no longer care for him, and from the moment we met him, we knew he was meant to be part of our family.

Shortly after bringing him home, we took Theo for a vet check-up, as we didn’t have much information about his health. The vet gave us heartbreaking news: Theo urgently needs BOAS surgery. His breathing is severely compromised, meaning he isn’t getting enough oxygen to his brain. This affects every part of his daily life—he vomits after eating or drinking, struggles with even the smallest walks, and is constantly exhausted.

We sought a second opinion at the Melbourne Bulldog Clinic, where specialists confirmed what the first vet had said. They explained that Theo’s case is severe and that he requires all five stages of the BOAS surgery. This is not a procedure just any vet can perform—it needs to be done by a highly experienced surgeon who specialises in BOAS.

Unfortunately, the wait list at the Melbourne Bulldog Clinic is very long, and given the urgency, they advised us to seek immediate help from another specialist clinic, South Paws Malvern.

The estimated cost is $5,500 AUD for consultation, surgery, and post-care. However, because of the complexity of Theo’s condition, the cost could rise significantly—up to $10,000+ if he requires a tracheotomy or several days in hospital.

Without this surgery, Theo will continue to suffer every single day, and his life expectancy will be drastically reduced.

Theo is only one-year-old. He’s just a puppy with his whole life ahead of him, and we want nothing more than to give him the chance to live it fully—running, playing, and breathing easily. He has already brought us so much joy in the short time we’ve had him, and we are determined to do everything possible to help him.

LA HISTORIA DE THEO - ESPAÑOL

Hace tres semanas recibimos en nuestra vida a un perrito Bulldog Francés al que le pusimos Theo. Su anterior dueño ya no podía cuidarlo y decidio regalarlo, asi que nosotros decidimos acogerlo como parte de nuestra familia.

El mismo dia que lo recibimos, lo llevamos al veterinario para hacerle un chequeo general, pues no teniamos mucha informacion de su salud. Lamentablemente, recibimos una noticia muy dura: Theo necesita una cirugía de BOAS con urgencia. Su respiración está gravemente comprometida, lo que significa que no está recibiendo suficiente oxígeno en el cerebro. Esto afecta todos los aspectos de su vida diaria: vomita después de comer o tomar agua, se cansa con las caminatas más cortas y pasa gran parte del tiempo exhausto y durmiendo.

Buscamos una segunda opinión en la Clínica Melbourne Bulldog, donde los especialistas confirmaron lo que ya nos habían dicho. Explicaron que el caso de Theo es grave y que requiere las cinco etapas completas de la cirugía BOAS. Esta no es una operación que pueda hacer cualquier veterinario; debe ser realizada por un cirujano con mucha experiencia en este tipo de procedimientos.

La lista de espera en la Clínica Melbourne Bulldog es muy larga y, dado lo urgente de la situación, nos recomendaron acudir a otro centro especializado: South Paws Malvern.

El costo estimado es de $5,500 AUD (incluyendo consulta, cirugía y cuidados posteriores). Sin embargo, debido a la complejidad del caso, el monto podría aumentar significativamente, llegando a más de $10,000 AUD si Theo llegara a necesitar una traqueotomía o varios días de hospitalización.

Theo tiene solo un año de edad. Es apenas un bebé con toda una vida por delante, y lo único que queremos es darle la oportunidad de vivirla plenamente: corriendo, jugando y respirando sin dificultad. En tan poco tiempo ya nos ha dado una enorme felicidad, y estamos decididos a hacer todo lo posible por ayudarlo.
