Our sweet boy, Theo, is only just under 2 years old, but in his short life he has already faced more than any dog ever should.
Last year, Theo was diagnosed with laryngeal paralysis, a serious condition that affects his ability to breathe. In August, he underwent tie-back surgery in the hope that it would give him a better, easier life.
For a while, it helped… but now, things are getting worse again.
Theo struggles with his breathing every single day.
Simple things that should be joyful for a young dog - going for a walk, playing with his friends, getting excited - can quickly turn into frightening breathing episodes. He can’t walk much further than our drive without struggling. He can’t play for long without needing to stop. Even moments of stress or excitement can trigger severe attacks where he fights just to catch his breath.
And then, a few days ago, we had a terrifying close call.
Theo was involved in an incident with our other dog, and the stress caused his breathing to completely shut down. He turned blue, collapsed, and went limp. For a moment, we thought we had lost him.
He had to be resuscitated just to start breathing again.
No dog - especially one so young - should have to go through that.
Theo was also born with disabilities affecting his back legs. We’ve recently got him a set of wheels to help support his mobility, but he will likely need his spine and hind legs assessed to make sure there isn’t anything treatable or any additional support that could improve his comfort and quality of life.
Despite everything, Theo is the definition of resilience. He is a happy bunny, and he continues to show us how strong he is every single day. He is the softest, most gentle boy you could ever meet. He’s cheeky, full of love, and famous in our home for his “Theo kisses.” Sometimes he even reminds us of Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh - sweet, soulful, and quietly brave.
But his breathing is now limiting his life. It’s stopping him from just being a puppy.
We don’t want that for him.
We want him to be able to run, play, explore, and enjoy life without constantly struggling to breathe. We want him to go on proper walks, play with other dogs as much as he wants, and feel safe in his own body.
Theo is under the care of Southfields Specialist Vet, and he urgently needs a full respiratory work-up. This will include further tests, scans, re-checking his larynx, and potentially more treatment or even additional surgery. We are also looking into anything that could help manage his condition and make him more comfortable day-to-day.
The costs for specialist care are extremely high, and we simply can’t manage it alone - but we are determined to do everything we can for him.
Every donation, no matter how small, will go directly towards:
* Specialist consultations
* Transport via pet ambulance if he doesn’t cope well to and from the vets
* Diagnostic tests and scans
* Treatment and medication
* Possible further surgery
* Ongoing care to improve his comfort and quality of life
The odds have never been in Theo's favour, but he continues to fight every single day.
Now we’re asking for help so we can fight for him.
Thank you so much for reading Theo’s story, sharing, and supporting him.
It truly means the world to us. ❤️
